Children have so many abilities even when they are very young.
They can run, jump, throw things, speak, sing, dance… an endless list of accomplishments, but the most unique and treasured of all our skills is the ability to use logic and reason.
Horses can run fast, birds can sing, cats can jump and there is no doubt that monkeys are clever, but as far as we know, no other species on the planet can solve problems and use logic quite like we can and we need to exercise our brains to make the most of our abilities.
Luckily, many toys and games provide the best exercise equipment for our brains, so we can have fun and challenge ourselves at the same time.
There are many types of toys that I could use as good examples, but these are some that use our unique skills to the max!
Puzzle Games- babies can stack, sort and match while developing motor skills, colour and shape recognition and hand-eye coordination. Games for older children include understanding cause and effect as well as spatial awareness.
Problem Solving Games - Absorbing and challenging. Games played individually also help to promote patience and team games can teach valuable sharing and losing lessons.
Construction and Building Games - These require lots of concentration and some children will like to follow the instructions to the letter which is excellent reading and reasoning practice. Other children will "free flow" and use their imaginations and artistic abilities to create something unique. We all learn in different ways and there is no right or wrong.
